Tides and Permits

TIDES

Driving on K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) Seventy-Five Mile Beach is subject to tides and the general rule is to make sure you are off the beach for two hours either side of the high tide. Tide times are available on the Bureau of Meteorology website. Make sure you type in Waddy Point for tide times on the eastern beach and Urangan for tide times on the western side.

PERMITS

Vehicle access and camping permits are required for all vehicles entering the island. Permits Can be purchased online or at Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service offices including Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Bundaberg and Rainbow Beach. The online link is also a great source of information about K'gari (Fraser Island) and includes info on the K'gari (Fraser Island) Great Walks, dingo safety in the national park, condition reports and general park alerts. 

4WD DRIVING CONDITIONS

Speed limits are 80km/h on the beach highways (which are gazetted highways and subject to Queensland laws) and either 35km/h or 20km/h on the inland tracks. Drivers need to be responsible and make themselves aware of the conditions before setting out. As per Queensland law, it is mandatory to wear seatbelts on K'gari (Fraser Island). The island's local police offers conduct random speed tests and random breath tests.

EMERGENCY

There is a Police Station at Eurong. First aid and emergency medical assistance can be obtained from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service ranger stations. In the event of an emergency please call 000.
